Hey Family!

I was so excited about Marvel’s Black Panther coming to theatres here in Nigeria. It would be the first time a major American film would feature all black actors and take place in Africa. My friends and I got dressed in all our Ankara outfits and set out to the Jabi Lake Mall to get our tickets. I felt it was important for my housekeeper and driver to see the film as well. Most of the movies they saw from America featured white actors and storylines. It was important to me that they see that Africa is beautiful and has many stories that needed to be told.
We got our tickets, popcorn, drinks, and set out to find our seats! Now, I think we were really fortunate to be watching the film in Nigeria because there were so many Nigerian references during the film…especially with the sexy M’Baku!
In true Naija fashion, the film started with laughs and then NEPA took de light ooo!!!! So we had to wait for the power to come back on and we enjoyed all that Wakanda had to give us. The last time I had a feeling like this from a major motion Hollywood film was during “Coming to America” and this beat that feeling by a million.
I can’t wait for the sequel to come out and we get to see more of Wakanda, the return of the diaspora, and M’Baku’s fine ass!
Until next time!
